The Wildland Weed Warriors accomplished a significant task by weeding around approximately 20 oak trees that one of the group’s founders had planted along the main trail at Golden Valley Ranch Open Space. With around 40 oak trees in total, our WWW volunteers will certainly have another opportunity to continue these efforts. While maintaining our open spaces, the group leader consistently fosters increased awareness and appreciation for our local flora and fauna. During this outing, volunteers spotted hoaryleaf ceanothus (Ceanothus crassifolius), as depicted in the posted picture, which blooms in March and April. These plants can reach heights of 14 feet and widths of 10 feet, primarily thriving in Southern California.
