FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the minimum age to volunteer with the City of Santa Clarita?

The age requirement varies per opportunity. Check the age requirements stated on the opportunity you are interested in before signing up.

Who can create an account?

The account holder must be 18 years old or up. The account holder is accepting waivers for themselves and any members on their account. All minors must be on their parent/guardian’s account. Minors are prohibited from creating an individual account due to the waivers that must be accepted by an adult.

Can a group leader create an account for their group?

No, group leaders (e.g., for scout troops, school clubs) cannot create an account for his/her group.  Each volunteer must be registered individually, and minors who want to volunteer must be connected to their parent or guardian’s account.

How do I add family members?

As a parent/ guardian, when you first create an account, you will have the opportunity to add your family members to your account and accept the waiver on their behalf.

To add members to an existing account, log in to your account and follow the steps below.

Volunteer dashboard -> Click “My Family” -> Click “New Member” -> After filling out the required information, click “Save member.”

Do not add individuals who are not your family members to your account.

My child is a minor, do I need to volunteer with them?

The requirements for each volunteer opportunity vary. Not all projects require a parent or guardian to volunteer with their minor. Check the age requirement section of each posted opportunity to see if a parent/guardian is mandatory for that project.

Can I earn community service hours?

Yes, absolutely. Bring your community service form when you volunteer and City staff will sign off on your hours at the end of your scheduled shift.  If you do not have a form, documentation can be provided upon email request.

How do I get proof of my community service hours?

To obtain proof of community service hours, email volunteers@santa-clarita.com and include the volunteer’s full name and phone number. Please allow staff at least one week to respond with your requested hourly log or community service form.

I am no longer able to make it to my volunteer shift; how do I cancel?

Log in to your account and click “Opportunity Search” to revisit the opportunity you wish to cancel.  When you find the opportunity, click on the title or “More Details.”  Click “View Assignments” to remove yourself or the appropriate family member from the activity and click “Update Placements.”
